Wagoween Charleston K9 Unit Fundraiser

Watch Wagoween, a Halloween costume contest for dogs benefitting the CPD K9 Unit, held at The Charleston Place Hotel on King Street in historic Charleston, SC. Local celebrity judges Bradley Carter and Emmy Sharrett from Bravo TVs' Southern Hospitality and News 2's Hanna Powers awarded fantastic prizes for Most Pawesome Couple, Most Howlarious, Most Creative, and Most Furightening.

With the event proceeds, the LENS Foundation will fund a new K9 for the @thecharlestonpolicedepartment. The dog will be named Luther in memory of Chief Luther Reynolds.

Using K9s helps ensure nonviolent outcomes for both suspects and police officers. These highly-trained dogs locate missing people and dangerous fugitives. They detect bombs and illegal drugs and can even sniff out a hidden USB loaded with digital child porn.

Safety and protection are invaluable, yet most police department budgets lack the budget to replace or add dogs. K9 officers adopt and pay out of their own pockets to care for their retired partner dogs. This is why we Wagoween.
