K9 Unit

(Continued)

Behind every brave K9 is a significant investment: it costs over $25,000 to purchase, train, equip, and care for each one.

The LENS Foundation is proud to have funded a K9 named Luther in memory of the late Police Chief Luther Reynolds. Luther represents the legacy of dedication and service that Chief Reynolds brought to Charleston. But our work doesn’t stop there. The LENS Foundation is committed to supporting these incredible dogs and their human partners.

When CPD K9s retire, their handlers adopt them, taking on the often costly care of these aging heroes. That’s why LENS now covers the cost of their food, ensuring they live their golden years with the comfort and care they deserve. We also provide crucial resources like bullet-proof vests to protect them in the line of duty. These K9s serve not only the Charleston Police Department but also assist agencies like the FBI, the Aviation Authority, and neighboring law enforcement departments.

Our fundraising efforts, including proceeds from Wagoween—our annual Halloween costume contest for dogs—and generous donations from the community, make this possible. Your support directly impacts the lives of these K9s and the safety of our community.

Please consider donating today. With your help, we can continue to protect those who protect us.
